Scroll
SCR
Scroll is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that uses zero-knowledge rollups to boost transaction speed and slash fees while keeping the network’s security intact. It offers full compatibility with Ethereum’s Virtual Machine, letting developers port dApps effortlessly without rewriting code. The SCR token drives governance, pays for transactions, and rewards network participants like provers and sequencers.

Alkutarina

Developed as a response to Ethereum’s scalability bottlenecks, the project harnesses zk-rollup tech to process transactions off-chain and post proofs on mainnet. Founders drew inspiration from advancing zero-knowledge proofs to create a secure, efficient extension of Ethereum without sacrificing decentralization. The name evokes seamless progression, much like scrolling through content, symbolizing smooth, endless scalability.

Esimerkkejä tosielämästä

Users swap tokens or lend assets on DeFi platforms like Uniswap or Aave with lightning-fast speeds and tiny fees compared to Ethereum mainnet. Developers deploy NFT marketplaces or gaming dApps that handle high volumes without congestion, drawing in everyday users who skipped blockchain due to costs. Provers earn rewards by generating zk proofs, while sequencers batch transactions for real-time efficiency.

Hauskoja faktoja

Total supply caps at 1 billion tokens, with vesting schedules for investors to ensure steady growth and curb volatility. It pioneered bytecode-level zkEVM compatibility, mimicking Ethereum so closely that most tools work out of the box. Mainnet launch marked a milestone in zk-rollup adoption, slashing fees dramatically for microtransactions.

Yhteisön kohokohdat

Holders shape the future via Scroll DAO, voting on upgrades and initiatives that drive ecosystem growth. Active on social platforms, enthusiasts build tools, host events, and share memes celebrating low-fee wins. Developers flock to grants and incentives, fostering a vibrant scene of dApps from DeFi to gaming.

Mikä tekee SCR erityisen?

Its three-layer setup—settlement on Ethereum, sequencing for batches, and proving with zk-SNARKs—delivers top-tier security and speed. Unlike some rivals, full EVM equivalence means no code changes needed, making it a drop-in upgrade for Ethereum apps. Fees stay ultra-low even under load, powered by efficient off-chain computation verified on-chain.

Tulevaisuuden visio

Full decentralization ramps up with SCR decentralizing provers, sequencers, and governance for a truly community-run network. Aims to fuel the open economy, scaling dApps globally to handle mass adoption without Ethereum bottlenecks. Long-term, it eyes broader Ethereum Layer 2 synergy, boosting throughput for everyday blockchain use.

Energy consumption: 20235.60000 kWh/a | Renewable energy: 0%

ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) regulations for crypto assets aim to address their environmental impact (e.g., energy-intensive mining), promote transparency, and ensure ethical governance practices to align the crypto industry with broader sustainability and societal goals. These regulations encourage compliance with standards that mitigate risks and foster trust in digital assets.

Consensus Mechanism Scroll utilizes a Zero-Knowledge Rollup (ZK-Rollup) consensus mechanism built on top of Ethereum's Layer 1 blockchain. ZK-Rollups bundle multiple transactions into a single batch, generating a cryptographic proof (known as a validity proof) to verify the correctness of all transactions in the batch. This proof is then submitted to the Ethereum mainnet, ensuring the integrity and security of the processed transactions. The mechanism offloads computation and storage from Layer 1 while relying on Ethereum's security guarantees for finality.
Incentive Mechanisms and Applicable Fees The Scroll network's incentive structures revolve around transaction processing and the maintenance of zk-provers, which are responsible for generating validity proofs. Users pay transaction fees to have their operations included in the network, and these fees cover the computational and storage costs associated with batching and proving transactions. Fees may fluctuate based on the complexity of transactions and network usage. Validators and operators of zk-provers receive compensation to ensure the continued functionality and security of the rollup mechanism.

Energy consumption resources and methodologies For the calculation of energy consumptions, the so called 'bottom-up' approach is being used. The nodes are considered to be the central factor for the energy consumption of the network. These assumptions are made on the basis of empirical findings through the use of public information sites, open-source crawlers and crawlers developed in-house. The main determinants for estimating the hardware used within the network are the requirements for operating the client software. The energy consumption of the hardware devices was measured in certified test laboratories. Due to the structure of this network, it is not only the mainnet that is responsible for energy consumption. In order to calculate the structure adequately, a proportion of the energy consumption of the connected network, ethereum, must also be taken into account, because the connected network is also responsible for security. This proportion is determined on the basis of gas consumption. When calculating the energy consumption, we used - if available - the Functionally Fungible Group Digital Token Identifier (FFG DTI) to determine all implementations of the asset of question in scope and we update the mappings regulary, based on data of the Digital Token Identifier Foundation. The information regarding the hardware used and the number of participants in the network is based on assumptions that are verified with best effort using empirical data. In general, participants are assumed to be largely economically rational. As a precautionary principle, we make assumptions on the conservative side when in doubt, i.e. making higher estimates for the adverse impacts.
